Crop rotation is the practice of growing two or more crops in close proximity. The most common goal of crop rotation is to increase yields on a given piece of land by making use of resources that would otherwise go unused by a single crop.

The main benefits of intercropping are:

  • One plant benefits from the other, whether by helping to repel pests or attract beneficial insects;
  • It protects the soil and plants from wind, sun, and excess water;
  • Lower incidence of unwanted plants among crops;
  • Better use of land, water, and sunlight;
  • Some plant combinations can improve or enhance the flavor of one or both species.
